Haiku er et japansk dikt på tre linjer. Den klassiske formen har 17 stavelser med fem stavelser i første linje, syv i den andre og fem i den tredje. Diktet beskriver naturen og inneholder en henvisning til årstiden. Ved å overholde denne formen, gis det en mulighet til på en kortfattet måte å skissere et landskap eller en opplevelse. Haiku-formen viste seg også velegnet til å beskrive vår indre natur og er en dikt-form, som på grunn av sin enkelhet, verdsettes i mange land.
